The skies above Shreveport - Bossier City are due for a treat.  Late tonight/early tomorrow morning (if our weather cooperates) those with an eye to the sky will catch a glimpse of the "Super Flower Blood Moon."  When it comes to beautiful astronomical phenomena, this one is right up there with eclipses, comets, and meteor showers.

Even though the title might make you think this lunar phase has nefarious intentions, it's simply the convergence of several moon-related events that gives us this rare beauty to behold.  The "super" refers to how big this moon will look.  According to the report from KTBS, Luna will appear to be 7% larger and 15% brighter due to the fact that it's 17,000 miles closer to the earth than normal.  The "flower" moniker is used here to signify that this is May's full moon, and that's when flowers are blooming.  The "blood" part?  That's due to a total lunar eclipse.  We're actually seeing the shadow of the earth covering the moon, and because of the way our sun's light filters through the atmosphere - it's getting bathed in blood-red light.

If the cloud cover clears enough, the best time to see this astronomical treat will reportedly be at about 6:15 am on Wednesday morning.
