The statistics are staggering when it comes to how often someone in Louisiana is having a traffic crash.

Even more sobering, how often someone is injured or killed out on our roadways.

Louisiana State Police Troop I Spokesman Thomas Gossen says that there is a traffic crash in Louisiana once every three minutes.

The other statistics about crashes in our state are even more overwhelming. There is a traffic crash with injuries every six minutes, and there is a fatality every 12 hours.

Because of these issues, officers will begin their "Click It or Ticket" campaign at 6 o'clock Wednesday night, and it will run through Monday morning at 6 o'clock.

Officers across the state are going to be looking for anyone who is not buckled up, and if you don't have that seat belt fastened, there is a good chance you are going to get a ticket.

Gossen says it doesn't matter if you are just going around the block to the store, or right down the street to a friends house, you are required to buckle your seat belt.

Most people may not even think about it, but if you are using a service like Lyft or Uber, you are still required to wear a seat belt.

Another misconception people might have about seat belt use, is that if you sit in the back seat, you don't have to wear a seat belt. Gossen says that's simply not true, and it can be dangerous for everyone in the vehicle not just you. You will become a projectile that can slam into the driver or other passengers.
