This year was the 150th anniversary of college football. Over the years, there have dozens of next level college teams: Alabama, USC, Nebraska, Miami, Florida State, etc.. But, it's kind of hard to talk about the greatest college teams without mentioning the 2019 LSU Tigers.

The undefeated Tigers were incredible. They had a Heisman winner in Joe Burrow. They didn't lose a game and were rarely contained by their opponents. That's a good start to the conversation. But when you really dig in, this team literally made history and did things NOBODY has been able to do in 150 years. The Bayou Bengals knocked off a record 7 Top 10 teams. On top of that, they beat all four of the pre-season Top 4 teams. Absolute incredible.

Then, there's the record setting offense. Burrow won the Heisman Trophy by the largest margin in the history of the award. He broke several NCAA FBS records, including most touchdown passes (60), and highest passer rating (202.0).

Hell, the entire team was decorated. Ja'Marr Chase won Biletnikoff Award for being best wide receiver in the country. Grant Delpit won the Jim Thorpe award for being the best defensive back in the country. Coach O won several national coaching awards. This team was the one team in recent memory that lived up to every single ounce of the hype.

I know I may be slightly biased here being an LSU fan...but as great as those 90s Nebraska teams were or as great as those late 2000s Alabama teams were, there stats and accomplishments don't come close to matching what the 2019 LSU Tigers were able to accomplish. Coach O called this LSU a team of destiny and a team for the ages. Given what they were able to do, he gets no argument from me.
