Recall Effort Launched Against Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry — What to Know
Baton Rouge, Louisiana - A new effort is underway to try to recall Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry. A Baton Rouge woman, Marian Gbaiwon Hills, started the recall petition on Monday. But WHY? Here's what we know...
In Louisiana, any registered voter can start a recall petition against an elected official. But for a statewide position like governor, it takes a lot of support.
Recently, the Governor was here in Lake Charles to officially break ground on the new I-10 Bridge, which is now officially underway.

Recall Filed Against Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry
Organizers must collect signatures from 20% of all registered voters in the state within 180 days. That means they need more than 500,000 signatures to move forward. Each signature must be checked and approved by election officials before anything else can happen.
According to reports, recall supporters say they are unhappy with the governor’s actions and statements. In the petition, they claim there has been a pattern that does not represent all people fairly and does not focus on the needs of communities. They also say they want more long-term solutions to problems instead of short-term punishments.

What Happens Next?
If enough signatures are collected, the state will review them. If they are approved, a recall election would be scheduled so voters can decide if the governor should stay in office.
Normally, the governor would call the election, but since he is the one being targeted, that job would go to the Secretary of State.
Recall efforts against governors in Louisiana are very rare. In fact, no recall attempt against a statewide elected official has ever made it to an election.
