Two Louisiana Cities Among Moldiest In U.S.
In the study by Neptune Mold, Louisiana ranks high in mold risk because many of its cities have both high humidity and lots of rainfall. For example, New Orleans is ranked number one in the country for mold risk, and Baton Rouge also appears in the top 20.
Cities across the state often see humidity levels above 70% and over 50 inches of rain each year. Even in places like Lake Charles or southwest Louisiana, the warm, wet weather makes moisture a year-round concern for homeowners.
Top cities include:
1. New Orleans
2. Houston
3. Miami
4. Jacksonville
5. Tampa
15. Baton Rouge

Steps To Lower Mold Risk
- Keep indoor humidity below 60% (ideally 30–50%).
- Use bathroom and kitchen fans.
- Fix leaks right away.
- Clean gutters so water drains properly.
- Make sure water flows away from your home’s foundation.
- Check attics and closets after heavy rain.
Mold is usually hidden, but it can affect comfort, air quality, and even health. Knowing how weather, rain, and housing age work together helps homeowners stay ahead of problems. The good news is that with regular checks and quick fixes, families can keep their homes safer, even in areas where mold risk is high.
