Major Clothing Retailer Files Bankruptcy: Closing All 6 Louisiana Locations

Every week, we hear news about another major retailer being forced to file for bankruptcy and close its doors. Not only do people lose their favorite places to shop but if you think about it, people are losing their jobs too.

This year alone, we have learned that major retailers in the clothing, food, and electronics industries have fallen victim to this fate. Stores like Party City, craft giant Jo Ann Fabric and Crafts, and many others are shutting their doors forever. The news has now broken about another retail giant that is going belly up. This clothing store has been in business for decades but now is forced to close all of its doors soon.

Forever 21 has filed for bankruptcy and is liquidating its assets. How are they doing this? One way is by closing all of its current retail locations. This decades-old retail clothing franchise blames fierce competition from Chinese retailers like Shein and Temu as part of its downfall.

The company explained when the filed for bankruptcy protection that the competition can offer lower prices on clothing since they get a trade exception which allows those companies to bypass import taxes and tariffs.

Forever 21 was founded in Los Angeles and filed for bankruptcy five years ago but got past it by restructuring and closing more than 100 stores now with the surge from Temu and Shein, the retailer had no choice but to fold.

So what does that mean for locations of Forever 21 in Louisiana? There are 6 locations still in the state. According to Forever 21's website, the locations in Louisiana include,

• Bossier City
• Gretna
• Lafayette
• Metairie
• New Orleans

There was one here in Lake Charles, Louisiana which was located off of Derek Drive but that store closed some time ago. If you live in any of the Louisiana cities that currently still have a Foerever 21, you may want to grab those clearance items now before they shut the doors, forever.
