Shreveport At Risk Of More Severe Weather Through Tonight
Weather here in the Arklatex could get nasty today and possibly stay that way for a number of hours.
The National Weather Service in Shreveport has placed the immediate Shreveport area at risk of some pretty intense storms this morning and possibly continuing through tonight.
Currently we are under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch, which means conditions for the severe weather are favorable, and this will continue until 10:00 am this morning for the following Northwest Louisiana parishes including Bossier, Caddo and Webster.
The watch is also for the following Southwest Arkansas counties of Columbia, Hempstead, Howard, Lafayette, Little River, Miller, Nevada and Sevier. Additionally, these Northeast Texas counties are included: Bowie, Camp, Cass, Franklin, Gregg, Harrison, Marion, Morris, Red River, Smith, Titus, Upshur and Wood.
The NWS explains that damaging wind gusts and large hail will be the primary threats, but an isolated tornado cannot be completely ruled out. Finally, areas of heavy rainfall may pose a threat of localized flash flooding with the most intense thunderstorms.
The potential for strong to severe thunderstorms will persist through the middle of this week as the frontal boundary is expected to remain nearly stationary and linger across the region. In addition, small disturbances in the upper-level northwest flow pattern will combine with the front to further enhance thunderstorm chances.
As a result, damaging wind gusts and large hail will remain possible each day. An isolated tornado also cannot be ruled out through Tuesday night. By late week, the chance of thunderstorms will decrease while temperatures increase into the mid and upper 90s to near 100 degrees with heat advisory conditions possible.
