Railroad Repair Forces Market Street Closure In Downtown Shreveport
To put it politely, traffic in downtown Shreveport will have its "challenges" in a week. Just make mental note of it so that it doesn't catch you off guard when it goes down.

In an alert to all drivers from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, we see that next Tuesday, June 16, US 71 southbound (Market Street) will be closed at the Union Pacific railroad crossing near the Hilton Hotel & Convention Center in downtown Shreveport.

DOTD states that this is a full closure of the southbound side of Market Street from approximately 8:30 am to 3:00 pm for this one day only, and is necessary to allow Union Pacific to perform repairs to their railroad tracks.
This crossing is located 0.3 mile north of the Texas Street (US 80) intersection.
All vehicles will be detoured via LA 3036 (N. Common Street) to Texas Street to Market Street.
Of course, work of this nature will be performed "Weather Permitting" so any inclement weather could delay/extend or alter in other ways the scheduled work day/hours.
DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment. Remember to leave plenty of room between you and the vehicle in front of you.
