SWEPCO Working to Restore Power to Thousands This Morning
As much of North Louisiana continues to prepare for the massive cold front expected to hit the area by early next week, many SWEPCO customers are already dealing with the loss of power.
Just after 4:00 am this morning, SWEPCO was reporting that over 7,000 customers were without power, with much of these in Northern Caddo, Bossier and Webster parishes.
However, it would appear the power giant is making great progress in restoring power to these customers, as at this writing at 5:20 am, it would appear SWEPCO has restored power to over 5,000 of these customers with the current number of powerless dropped to just over 2,700 customers.
Of course, we aren't out of the woods yet, as the the threat of severe weather continues for much of this morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, our area is under a wind advisory with the possibility of northwesterly winds between 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph continues until 6:00 pm tonight (Friday, Jan. 12), and the area is under a Tornado Watch which will run through 11:00 am this morning for Bossier, Caddo, Claiborne and Webster Parishes in Northwest Louisiana. It also includes Union, Columbia, Lafayette, and Nevada Counties in Southwest Arkansas and Gregg, Harrison, Marion, Panola and Rusk Counties in East Texas.
This includes the cities of Bossier City, Bradley, Carthage, El Dorado, Haynesville, Henderson, Homer, Jefferson, Lewisville, Longview, Magnolia, Marshall, Minden, Prescott, Shreveport, Springhill and Stamps.
And this could only be the tip of the iceberg as another threat is ushered in late Sunday into Monday with an extremely cold blast.
