Look Inside The Eerie Remains Of Abandoned Six Flags New Orleans
(KHLA - Lake Charles, Louisiana) - Jazzland, later known as Six Flags New Orleans, was abandoned after being ravaged by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
Under the name Jazzland, the theme park debuted in 2000. Six Flags bought the park after its former owner declared bankruptcy in 2002. In 2003, they reopened the area to the public after renaming it Six Flags New Orleans and spending $20 million on upgrades. Hurricane Katrina, however, destroyed the park in 2005, and it was ultimately determined that it was too damaged to reopen. A number of the rides were saved by Six Flags and moved to other parks across the nation.

About 80% of the structures and attractions were thought to have been totally damaged by the storm winds as well as by being flooded by the salty Lake Pontchartrain waters that poured into the park.
The other night, while browsing YouTube, I went down a rabbit hole of a series of videos showing people visiting the deserted amusement park. I remember hearing about Jazzland as a kid and always wanting to visit, but I never did.
