Did you know a former comptroller was murdered in his own office at the Texas State Capitol?
The Haunting at the Texas State Capitol
Typical ghost or haunting tours typically happen at the place of a grizzly murder. Did you know that when the Texas Capitol was just a few years old, a state comptroller was murdered by an angry civilian? According to some politicians and late night workers at the Capitol, that have encountered some paranormal activity on the third floor supposedly where this murder took place.
Texas State Comptroller Robert Marshall Love
Love started his political career all the way back in 1872 when he was elected as sheriff in Limestone County in 1872. He held many positions over the next few decades in Texas and in 1901, became the Texas State Comptroller. Looks like Mr. Love gained some enemies throughout the years including a former employee named W.G. Hill who came to the Capitol in 1903 and murdered Love in his own office.
W.G. Hill's Letter to Love Before His Murder
Supposedly Hill delivered this letter to Love and then shot him in his office. Hill attempted to flee the Capitol building, but a bookkeeper at the Capitol was able to stop Hill from running. He was able to manage Hill's own gun from him and kill him with his own firearm in the Capitol. Hill supposedly lost his job at the Capitol from what he claimed was Love's incompetence.
News Report on Ghostly Encounters at the Texas Capitol
Many have claimed to see a strange man dressed in old clothing roaming the Capitol late at night and many believe this is the ghost of Comptroller Love. When folks go to investigate this strange man, he suddenly disappears.
We often hear about haunted places in Texas, but not a lot know about the supposed ghost haunting the Texas Capitol late at night.
