Armed Man “Lucky to Be Alive” After He Confronts Shreveport Officers
An afternoon call regarding suspicious activity nearly turned fatal on May 1, 2026, when a local man reportedly resisted arrest while armed with a loaded weapon.
Kris Chandler is being described as "lucky to be alive" after a physical struggle with Shreveport Police officers that resulted in a Taser deployment and multiple felony charges.
Suspicious Person Call Leads to Armed Encounter
The incident began around 3:30 PM when officers were dispatched to the 9400 block of Ranch Lane to investigate reports of a prowler. Upon arrival, police encountered Chandler exiting a vacant residence.
According to department reports, Chandler immediately drew suspicion by keeping both hands concealed deep within his jacket pockets.

Despite clear verbal commands from officers to show his hands, Chandler initially refused. It was during this initial confrontation that officers spotted the distinct outline of a handgun inside his pocket.
Escalation and Physical Struggle
As officers moved in to conduct a safety pat-down and secure the weapon, the situation rapidly deteriorated. Police say Chandler attempted to pull away and reached back toward the pocket containing the firearm.

Officers forced Chandler to the ground where he continued to resist their efforts to restrain him, officers deployed a Taser to regain control. The tactical intervention allowed police to safely recover a loaded 9mm handgun and place Chandler in handcuffs.
Minor Injuries and Serious Legal Consequences
The struggle left two officers with minor injuries, including a busted lip, but department officials emphasized that the outcome could have been far more tragic given the presence of a loaded firearm.
Chandler was transported to the Caddo Correctional Center and currently faces the following charges:
- Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer
- Resisting with Force or Violence
- Negligent Carrying of a Handgun
- Criminal Trespassing
Authorities are using this incident as a sobering reminder of the dangers inherent in police encounters, noting that the decision to reach for a weapon can turn a routine investigation deadly in a matter of seconds.
