Earlier this week, Judge Parker Self ordered an accused murderer to be committed to a mental health facility.

The accused murderer in question is John Hardy. Back in 2020 Hardy went missing a month after his business partner was reported missing In January. Authorities later discovered the remains of Hardy's business partner Garrett Wilson. Wilson had been dismembered, and his body parts strewn in a wooded area outside of Benton.

Shortly after the remains were discovered, Hardy was picked up by Caddo Parish Deputies on an In-State Fugitive charge. Hardy was then transported back to Bossier Parish where he was charged with Second Degree Murder and Obstruction of Justice.

Hardy plead not-guilty to the accused crimes and has been awaiting trial.

Hardy also has charges stemming from an escape attempt in 2020. Allegedly Hardy was being transported from the jail to the hospital for medical treatment, when he grabbed the Officer's mace, and after assaulting the Officer tried to go for their gun.

Hospital staff was able to stop the attempt.

Over the Fall, several letters were written to Judge Self from Hardy concerning his upcoming trial. Those letters, and concern from his attorney Dhu Thompson, lead to a forensic evaluation of Hardy.

On Wednesday (1/3/24) Judge Self ordered Hardy to be committed to a mental health facility as it was believed that he lacked the mental capacity to assist his attorney during the trial.

Hardy was committed to the Eastern Louisiana Mental Health System, and will be staying there until it is believed that he is fit to stand trial.
