Buc-ee’s still has not opened a location in Louisiana, but the company is already in the headlines for something else: a federal trademark lawsuit filed February 18, 2026, in Ohio.

Buc-ee’s claims the Mickey’s convenience store chain rolled out a moose logo and red badge branding that is too close to Buc-ee’s famous beaver, and could confuse customers.

What’s Happening in the Ohio Case

Reports say Buc-ee’s is suing Coles IP Holdings, the company behind Mickey’s, arguing the rebrand creates a false association with Buc-ee’s. The suit seeks to stop use of the logo and related branding, and asks the court to cancel Mickey’s trademark registrations.

Why This Matters for Louisiana

When a brand becomes a road trip destination, the mascot is not just cute, it is the front door to the whole business. That matters for Louisiana because Ruston is positioned to become the first Buc-ee’s stop for plenty of drivers from Shreveport-Bossier heading east on I-20.

Mascots and big, bold logo badges are everywhere, especially for food and convenience brands. If you are building a brand around a character, a quick trademark check and a professional opinion can save a painful rebrand later.
