This week, 53 people were booked and kept at Caddo Correctional Center for various crimes.
One of those booked was arrested for theft and was found to be a habitual offender.
Shreveport Police officers responded to a reported theft in progress at Walmart on East Bert Kouns Industrial Loop.
While SPD was on the way to Walmart, they were told that the suspect had already left the store and was walking toward Willis Knighton Pierremont. Officers quickly contacted Walmart loss prevention and got a photo of the suspect.
Officers were able to quickly locate the man nearby. Officers found the stolen merchandise inside the suspect’s backpack when they searched him.
When SPD ran the man's name through the system, it showed the suspect, William Black, also had an outstanding warrant from in Bossier for felony theft.
Black was taken into custody and now faces an additional charge of felony theft as a habitual offender due to his prior theft convictions.
From SPD:
"The Shreveport Police Department would like to remind those who choose to steal from our stores that these crimes will continue to be investigated and prosecuted. You may not be caught every time, but surveillance cameras have a long memory—and eventually, you will be caught."
All those pictured are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
