UPDATE: The suspect killed in a shootout with police in west Shreveport has now been identified. He is 19-year-old Javaria R. Taylor of Shreveport was killed after opening fire on the officers. A woman in the car with Taylor was arrested. 21-year-old Mikala Jefferson of Shreveport is charged with accessory after the fact to first degree murder.

Sheriff Steve Prator told KEEL News Taylor entered a guilty plea on a gun charge back in September and a 3 year sentence was suspended.
Prator said "this guy should have been in jail."

SHREVEPORT, LA - More information has been released about the Caddo Parish Deputy shot during an incident in west Shreveport on Wednesday afternoon. Deputy  Justin Dunn was shot in the shoulder while trying to arrest a murder suspect.

Dunn is a 12-year veteran of the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office. He's the son of a retired deputy and is the father of 4 children.

He was shot in the shoulder area while trying to arrest a suspect with the U.S. Marshals Task Force at the Foxborough Cove apartment complex on Pines Road.  Caddo and Bossier deputies along with Bossier City police were trying to arrest the suspect when the man allegedly opened fire on them. Several of the officers returned fire, killing the suspect.

How Is the Deputy Doing?

Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator tells KEEL News the suspect was wanted for murder out of Jackson Parish. He was found dead in a car at the apartment complex after the shootout.
Prator says Dunn is in “great shape”. But he says the bullet is still lodged in him, but it will be removed by doctors and he should be able to make a full recovery.
Louisiana State Police is now stepping in to investigate this case. The Caddo Coroner's office has not yet released the suspect's name.
