Shreveport Police Seek Public’s Help Identifying Counterfeit Suspect
Shreveport investigators are calling on the community to help identify a man linked to a recent fraud incident at a local retail store. The Shreveport Police Department released details Friday regarding a transaction involving counterfeit bills that took place last month, hoping a member of the public might recognize the individual involved.
Fraudulent Transaction at Shreveport Family Dollar
The incident occurred on the afternoon of March 16, 2026, at the Family Dollar located at 9034 Mansfield Road. According to police reports, at approximately 5:28 PM, an unidentified Black male entered the establishment with the intent to load $500 in cash onto a prepaid card.
While the transaction was initially processed, a subsequent inspection of the currency revealed a significant portion of the cash was fake.
Detectives Uncover Low-Quality Forgeries
Upon closer examination, investigators determined that $200 of the funds—consisting of ten $20 bills—were counterfeit. The forgeries were reportedly of poor quality, lacking the standard security features found on authentic U.S. currency, such as color-shifting ink and the distinct tactile texture of banknote paper.
Detectives noted a striking pattern among the seized bills:
- Five of the bills shared one identical serial number.
- The remaining five bills shared a second, different serial number.
Authorities stated that the appearance of the money was "inconsistent with legitimate currency" and should have been easily identifiable as fraudulent.
How to Provide Information to Authorities
The Shreveport Police Department is actively pursuing leads to identify the suspect and prevent further fraudulent activity in the area.
