SHREVEPORT, LA - We all know our area has been rocked by storms this year. Thousands of trees have been damaged or destroyed. But several groups are teaming up to get more trees planted in our community.

Shreveport Green, the Arbor Day Foundation and State Farm are partnering for a couple of events to help turn this around.

Free Tree Giveaway:

The giveaway is happening from 9 a.m. to noon on Friday, November 17 in the Mall St. Vincent parking lot. 500 5-gallon shumard oaks, live oaks, red maples, cypresses and red ornamental magnolias will be given away to Shreveport-Bossier City residents on a first-come first-served basis. If you plan to attend this event, enter on the Southern Avenue side to help with the traffic backup.

Discounted Tree Sale:

These groups will also be selling larger trees at very good prices. But you do need to preorder the trees ahead of time. Pickup will be held on Saturday, November 18 from 9am-noon at Shreveport Green at 3625 Southern Avenue.

Local residents will be able to order a 15-, 30- or 45-gallon tree at a deeply discounted price. Call 318-219-1888, ext. 16, for species, prices and to order. The deadline to get your order in is November 14.

Shreveport Green will assist those who purchase larger trees by digging a planting hole at a cost of $15 per tree.
