New Jimmie Davis Bridge Reaches Huge Milestone: Here’s When You Can Drive Across It
Work is moving along on time on construction of the new Jimmie Davis Bridge in south Shreveport-Bossier City.
DOTD Secretary Glenn Ledet tells KEEL News:
We are 2 years into construction on this project. Girder installation is being completed now. For the first time in 6 decades we’ve got a new fully connected structure across the Red River.
Ledet says “this is almost a $400 million dollar project and we've got a lot of work that will be happening on the concrete bridge deck over the next weeks and months.”
When Will the New Jimmie Davis Bridge in Shreveport-Bossier Open?
Construction is on schedule at this point and Ledet says “We are on path to be able to drive across the new bridge in the 3rd quarter of 2027. We are working 24/7 on that project and there’s been a lot of progress.”
What Is Happening with Turning the Old Bridge into a Linear Park?
Ledet says the tarps covering the existing bridge are being taken off soon and you will begin to see some progress on what will be a linear park. Ledet says:
The linear park will include a lot of architecture that reflects the history of the area. The linear park will actually tie in to the pedestrian and bicycle access on both sides of the river. It will be an exciting time as we continue this over the next year and a half.
DOTD expects more than 30-thousand motorists to drive over the new bridge each day.
This new bridge is described as "one of the largest investments in the state’s transportation system in the last several years, eventually transforming the manner in which motorists cross the Red River in the south Shreveport-Bossier City area."

The new four-lane bridge is expected to be open to traffic by mid to late 2027, with the entire project (linear park included) anticipated to wrap up in late 2028.
