SHREVEPORT, LA - Shreveport has been getting lots of good economic news lately with several big announcements. And the jobless rate in Louisiana is at an all time low of 3.3%, but some companies have laid off workers this year. Other companies have completely shut down operations in the state.

What Companies Have Laid Off Workers in 2023?

BCH d/b/a Wellness Work in Lafayette has laid off 63 healthcare workers this year. The company has been phasing out most of its WellnessWorks business.

Magnit Corporation (operating Electronic Arts) in Baton Rouge laid off more than 200 workers earlier this year in a move that surprised many of those employees. The majority of the impacted employees were testers for Respawn Entertainment's popular multiplayer game 'Apex Legends,' which is published by EA.

Morrison Healthcare operating at Our Lady of the Lake Medical Centers at three locations laid off 195 workers earlier this year. Morrison is a food service company providing food for health care facilities.

Coastal Cargo Company at the port of New Orleans shut down earlier this year terminating 135 workers. The company was facing a lease termination plus an ongoing legal dispute.

Ampacet Corporation  is shutting down operations in DeRidder, laying off 65 workers. The jobs are being phased out over the next 3 months.

Ardagh Glass of Simsboro laid off 257 workers when the Louisiana plant was shut down earlier this year. Demand for glass products have been declining.

Aramark Services has laid off nearly 200 workers in Louisiana. This layoff includes 61 at Christus Highland Medical Center on Bert Kouns in Shreveport, 51 workers at Christus St. Patrick Hospital in Lake Charles and 79 workers at Christus St. Frances Cabrini in Alexandria. What has happened in this deal is that the current food service contract between CHRISTUS Health and Aramark has expired and the hospital will start working with a new food vendor on November 1. Many of the Aramark employees will be offered positions with Morrison.

Custom Printed Products of Bossier City has sent a notice of layoffs to the state. No details about how many workers are involved.

Teijin Automotive Technologies of Sarepta has notified the state of layoffs of more than 200 workers. This is a direct result of the UAW strike. Teijin makes exterior body panels for mid-engine Chevy Corvette that’s shipped to the assembly plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Teijin also makes truck beds for the GMC Sierra Sierra Denali. And they make fenders for the Ford F-150 Raptor.
