What This Means for Bossier Boardwalk?
This could make the Boardwalk feel more like Bourbon Street in New Orleans or Beale Street in Memphis. Part of the goal is to breathe new life into the area’s dining and entertainment scene.
Mayor Tommy Chandler has proposed the change which he hopes will transform the Boardwalk into a more pedestrian-friendly destination by allowing visitors to carry alcoholic beverages throughout public walkways and common areas.
This could help with economic revitalization in the area. It would allow patrons to "sip and stroll." Many also believe this will encourage folks to stay at the Boardwalk for longer visits which will generate more spending.
Creating an open container district at the Boardwalk could also bring in more businesses with new jobs for the region.

What Will the Rules Be for Open Containers?
The city will put some rules in place for this proposal. These drinks will have to be in "approved plastic cups that must be purchased at a permitted establishment within the district."
No glass or outside containers allowed.
You also will not be able to brink alcohol into non-permitted businesses or retail shops.
You cannot carry your beverage into the parking areas or off the Boardwalk property.
What Happens Next with this Plan?
The measure is before the City Council on first reading. If it passes, it will have to layover until a final vote could happen at the next meeting.
Leaders want to make the Boardwalk a premier destination for dining and entertainment. This would allow a more relaxed, pedestrian-friendly atmosphere.
