A blast of winter weather is now mixing with flooding conditions across the Ark-La-Tex, which is now leading to school closures in the region. Though not all schools are closing, there are some who are making the decision to call off the day. While some schools are taking the option to start later in the morning, to hopefully get a day in.

Again, this list may change as road conditions deteriorate. Or this list may stay where it is if the roadways allow.

Now many in the Ark-La-Tex have driven through heavy rain and standing water, dealing with slick roads and black ice are very different. AAA has posted some tips for winter driving online, they include:

  • Keep a bundle of cold-weather gear in your car, such as extra food and water, warm clothing, a flashlight, a glass scraper, blankets, medications, and more.
  • Make certain your tires are properly inflated and have plenty of tread.
  • Keep at least half a tank of fuel in your vehicle at all times.
  • Never warm up a vehicle in an enclosed area, such as a garage.
  • Do not use cruise control when driving on any slippery surface, such as on ice and snow.

If more schools close for February 1st, we will keep you updated through our app, and on the air.
