Shreveport and Bossier Schools Will Be Closed Thursday

SHREVEPORT, LA - Students in Shreveport and Bossier City get more good news today. They do not have to return to classes on Thursday. Officials with Caddo and Bossier Parish Schools have decided to keep the schools closed for one more day.

Bossier Sends Out This Statement:

"Out of an abundance of caution, all Bossier schools and centers will remain CLOSED on Thursday, January 18. After a thorough assessment of road conditions, we are concerned about travel during the morning hours. Though thawing has occurred in much of the city, that is not the case in rural areas."

Caddo Parish Issues Statement:

Caddo school leaders made the decision "with the safety of our students, staff, and families as our top priority and out of an abundance of caution" the schools will remain closed.

Though many of the main roadways have thawed and the ice is gone. That might not be the case in some outlying areas where buses have to go to pick up children. Those roads could refreeze tonight when the temperature again drops below freezing.

An update is expected from both school districts Thursday afternoon about Friday classes.

Bossier Parish will still host a Meet and Greet reception for Superintendent Jason Rowland and the 2024 BPSB officers at 5 p.m. as well as the regular session of the Bossier Parish School Board at 6 p.m. Both will be at the Bossier Instructional Center, 2719 Airline Drive in Bossier.
