Yesterday, Shreveport Police Department responded to a major crash involving a vehicle and two pedestrians on Jefferson Paige Road.

The preliminary investigation revealed that an 18 year-old woman was walking eastbound in the roadway while pushing her 1 year-old child in a stroller. A black 2020 GMC Yukon was also driving eastbound when it hit the mother and child, knocking them from the roadway.

The Shreveport Fire Department took both pedestrians to a local hospital. The 1 year-old child suffered life-threatening injuries. The mother is expected to recover.

The driver stayed at the scene and voluntarily submitted to chemical testing. At this time, investigators do not suspect that impairment was a factor in the crash. Investigators also found that lighting conditions in the area were poor, making the pedestrians difficult to see.

From SPD:

"Due to the severity of the crash, the Shreveport Police Department Crash Investigation Unit was notified and is continuing the investigation.

No citations have been issued at this time."
