UPDATE:

The Shreveport Police Department is now clarifying information released concerning the shooting investigation that began in the 5800 block of Attaway Street.

Yesterday, it was believed that the driver involved in the secondary crash at Vernon Street and Linwood Avenue had died. That information was incorrect. Shreveport Fire Department personnel were able to resuscitate the driver at the scene, and he was transported to Ochsner LSU Health Medical Center. The driver remains hospitalized and is alive.

Here's the Latest Info From SPD:

On July 16, 2026, at approximately 3:44 p.m., officers with the Shreveport Police Department responded to the 5800 block of Attaway Street after receiving reports of shots fired.

While responding, officers located a vehicle that had been struck multiple times by gunfire near the intersection of 61st Street and Linwood Avenue. Inside the vehicle, officers found an adult female suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was pronounced deceased.

Investigators determined that the suspect, 23-year-old Thomas Lemons chased the victim through the neighborhood at a high rate of speed while repeatedly shooting into her vehiicle.

During the pursuit, the victim’s vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic near the intersection of Vernon Street and Linwood Avenue, where it collided with another vehicle. The driver of that vehicle was critically injured in the crash. Shreveport Fire Department personnel successfully revived the driver at the scene before transporting him to Ochsner LSU Health Medical Center, where he remains hospitalized.

After the collision, investigators say Lemons exited his vehicle and continued firing multiple rounds at passing vehicles and individuals who were in the area.

A total of four people were hit by gunfire. One victim died as a result of the shooting, while the three surviving victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries and are receiving medical treatment.

Lemons was taken into custody at the scene and transported to Ochsner LSU Health Medical Center for treatment. After being medically cleared, he was interviewed by detectives. He is charged with one count of second-degree murder.
