Shreveport Drivers Face Rising Gas Prices Through Labor Day Travel Season

Gas prices across the United States continue to climb steadily into dire territory. The Shreveport and Bossier City area has not escaped this trend, despite being located within an "energy producing state".

The current average for regular unleaded fuel across the Shreveport and Bossier City metro area sits at $3.68 per gallon. That's up 5 cents a gallon over last week's average price. While this number isn't as high as we have seen this summer, which was a $3.71 average recorded just one month ago, it represents a significant financial shift from the $2.68 local drivers paid at this exact time last year.

The current surge is not a short-lived anomaly tied to a singular catastrophic event...some may point to past price spikes immediately following the 9/11 attacks or during the pandemic as waterparks to argue against the consequences of our current price problem. But at the same time, gas during the pandemic dropped to an alarming $1.77 per gallon national average as lockdowns settled in, and the roads cleared out. So positioning any of the 2020-2022 gas price spikes against today's problematic pricing needs to include the lower number as well.

But those unprecedented increases were resolved relatively quickly...and this current market shift represents a sustained economic burden for local families and businesses.

When Will Fuel Cost Increases Stop Impacting Louisiana Drivers

Industry analysts project these elevated costs will remain stable, or continue rising, through the Labor Day holiday travel period, at the minimum. The sustained costs are heavily driven by the global price of crude oil, market volatility, and supply chain factors...almost all tied to the Iran war being driven by the United States government. The ongoing conflict will keep those oil prices elevated...which directly translates to higher numbers seen at local gas pumps.

Consumer confidence has plummeted to recent lows as these prices remain firmly anchored at their current tiers. Regionally, households are being forced to rework monthly budgets to accommodate basic transportation needs as the economic strain continues. The cost of fuel is touching numerous other costs of living, including food and basic needs.

Experts note that determining an exact timeline for price drops remains difficult...leaving Louisiana residents with few options but to absorb the extra expense.

Louisiana Drivers Still Pay Less Than National Fuel Averages

The situation in Northwest Louisiana remains challenging for residents, and local small businesses. However the current local rates are still below the overall national average...and especially lower than major markets on the west coast.

Coastal states are dealing with regional averages well beyond the $4 a gallon threshold. Shreveport drivers are avoiding the most severe pump prices...even if the daily commute costs noticeably more than it did a few years ago.
