Shreveport K9 Officer Brings Alleged Sex Offender to Justice

K9 Karo proved why he is one of the Shreveport Police Department’s most valuable crime fighters.

While assisting the U.S. Marshals, SPD Officers served a felony warrant on Jose F. Caal Pop, who was wanted out of New Jersey on charges including aggravated sexual assault, sexual battery, and molestation of a juvenile after allegedly fleeing to Louisiana.

Once Pop was found in Shreveport, the suspect refused to surrender and remained hidden inside the residence despite repeated commands from Officers to come out. That’s when SPD deployed K9 Officer Karo.

Karo tracked the suspect to the second floor of the home he was hiding in, where he apprehended him, bringing the standoff to a swift end. The suspect sustained minor injuries, was treated at the scene, and was taken to the Shreveport City Jail for booking pending extradition.
