Shreveport Teen Arrested With a Gun at Local High-School Event
A CPSO School Resource Officer, along with the use of weapon detection technology, helped ensure the safety of everyone at an event at Booker T. Washington High School.
Yesterday, a person tried to enter the event and passed through an open-gate security detection system designed to detect weapons. When the system alerted security, a School Resource Officer searched the individual.
At that moment, the suspect took off running. After a brief chase, The School Deputy and a Shreveport Police Officer were able to catch the suspect and arrested him without incident. He was identified as 18 year-old Darius Rashad Johnson. During the search, Deputy Daniels found a handgun in Johnson's possession.
Johnson was charged with:
- Unlawful disruption of the operation of a school
- Carrying a Firearm/Non-student at school
- Resisting an Officer
He was taken to the Caddo Correctional Center, where he was booked on those charges.
From CPSO:
"This incident demonstrates the effectiveness of modern weapon detection systems, alongside the vigilance and professionalism of highly trained law enforcement personnel.
The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office, along with the Caddo Parish School Board, remains dedicated to maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and community members attending school events."
