SHREVEPORT, LA - It's almost time to take a minute to honor veterans in our community. A special event is being planned to recognize all veterans in the area.

First Baptist Church in Shreveport is hosting a Veterans Day Concert to recognize our community veterans and their service to our nation.

Who Will Be Performing?

 

This will be a patriotic musical concert. The concert will be held in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church and will feature four area choirs, including the Shreveport Bossier Community Chorale, First Baptist Church Sanctuary Choir, the River Cities Jubilee Barbershop Chorus, and the First Baptist Church School choirs. This concert will also feature members of the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra, the Barksdale Air Force Color Guard, and special guests.

Highlights of the concert are a powerful concert-opener titled Glory by Michael W. Smith and American Salute by Morton Gould. Other favorites include The Star-Spangled Banner with soloist Gale Odom, Professor Emerita; Former Dean of the Hurley School of Music, Stars and Stripes Forever by John Philip Sousa, and Battle Hymn of the Republic arranged by Peter Wilhousky. The concert will also feature a new Armed Forces Medley arranged this year by Jim Kessler and includes Space Force in this celebratory new setting.

Also included on the program is Midway March by John Williams, written for the motion picture Midway, and Thank You Soldier featuring students from First Baptist Church School. The concert feature two somber pictures titled The Folded Flag by Joseph Martin and Fanfare for the Common Man by Aaron Copeland as we reflect on the sacrifices of our nation’s heroes. The concert will conclude with Joseph Jenkins’ patriotic American Overture.
