UPDATE:

Shreveport is now issuing a notice about water for today.

The City of Shreveport's Department of Water and Sewerage is urging residents to limit nonessential water use following three days of extreme winter weather. The weather-related issues have not allowed us to replenish water reserves, potentially causing lower-than-normal water pressure today.

In the event of busted water lines or any other emergency water-related issues, customers are encouraged to contact the Department of Water and Sewerage's emergency line at 318-673-7600.

SHREVEPORT, LA - Today will be the day many residents will find out if they have busted pipes. Most of us have been dripping those pipes since Sunday night to try to avert a problem during the freeze. But several towns are struggling to keep the water flowing.

Some boil advisories are in place and other communities are urging residents to try to conserve water if at all possible.

What Towns Are Having the Most Trouble?

The Town of Vivian Water System is having a problem at the treatment plant because of this deep freeze. They have issued a boil advisory for all residents. The notice sent out says "the water produced by the town’s water supply system is of questionable microbiological quality." As a precaution anyone using Vivian water should boil it before consuming it or using it to cook or brush teeth.

Blanchard is having trouble keeping up with the demand. There is a boil advisory at this point, but Blanchard Utilities has sent out a recorded message saying they are experiencing systemwide outages due to the wintry conditions. Some residents have posted on social media that they have no water at all in some areas around Blanchard.

DeSoto Water District 1 is also having trouble keeping up with demand. They have shut off all our bulk users to have water for homes. But the message says "If levels continue to go down, we will have to turn off some neighborhoods to preserve water for fire emergencies. This is a last resort, and we hope to not have to do that. It all depends on customers." They are urging residents to limit usage.

The Town of Campti has issued a systemwide boil advisory effective which will remain in effect until further notice. This is due to a loss of pressure from the winter storm.

No major issues have been reported with Shreveport or Bossier City water.
