How Much Sleet and Ice Did Shreveport Area Get in Winter Storm
A bitterly cold morning as we start out the new week. Temps overnight Sunday dropped into the teens. The wind chill has dipped into the single digits
How Cold Will It Be Tonight?
Richard Lewelling with The Weather Channel says we could set a new record low on Tuesday. He's expecting our low temp tonight to drop to 12 degrees. The old record is 13 which was set way back in 1904. Lewelling says it will be brutally cold tonight.
But he says we will warm back up into the mid 40's tomorrow and again on Wednesday. That should bring about significant melting of the ice we are currently dealing with in the Shreveport - Bossier metro.
How Much Freezing Rain and Sleet Did Shreveport Get
Lewelling says Shreveport got mostly sleet during this storm. The numbers range from 1-4 inches. He says folks to the southern parts of the city got more sleet.
Freezing rain was the order of the day for parishes to our south. He says DeSoto, Red River, Natchitoches, Jackson and parishes in northeast Louisiana were hit hard by freezing rain. This caused widespread power outages and lots of damage to trees.

Those areas got 2-3 inches of ice and freezing rain.
Schools across the region are closed today and tomorrow. Government offices are also closed.
The death toll from this winter storm system keeps climbing. At least nine deaths are blamed on the storm. In Louisiana, two men died of hypothermia, and that was also the cause of death for a woman in Kansas and one of two deaths in Texas.
