Recently, there was a fun little research exercise put together by the legal firm Weiss & Paarz. They conducted an analytical study to determine the favorite fictional doctor in every state across the country...which is particularly hilarious because Weiss & Paarz are medical malpractice attorneys.

With the punchline revelation of a medical malpractice law firm doing a study on fictional doctor aside, the research revealed that Dr. Nick from the animated series The Simpsons ranks as the most popular fictional medical professional in the United States. Really wrapping the whole thing together in laughable context.

Seven states selected the cartoon physician as their top choice, including heavily populated areas like California, New York, and Washington. Dr. Watson from the Sherlock Holmes literary series secured second place overall, winning five states including Idaho, Maryland, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Wisconsin.

The Louisiana's Top Fake Medical Professional

The top pick in Louisiana might not be the most recognizable name on the list, but that hasn't stopped fans from falling in love with the show. According to the research, Louisiana residents selected Dr. Shaun Murphy, the main character from the show 'The Good Doctor'.

This lead character is played by actor Freddie Highmore, who picked up the role in 2017. The show ran all the way until 2024, producing 126 episodes for ABC. The show is a medical drama that follows a young doctor who has autism. He comes from Casper, Wyoming and moves to San Jose, California...creating a small-town-to-big-city dynamic. While Highmore did get some good reviews for his role, it also came with criticism for the way it portrayed autism in storylines.

Examining The Fake Doctors In Texas, Arkansas, and Mississippi

Surrounding states displayed distinct individual preferences throughout the comprehensive national study. Texas residents selected Victor Frankenstein as their favorite fictional doctor, joining three other states that favored the classic gothic literature character.

Mississippi had a pretty basic choice, joining the majority in picking a character from The Simpsons...but they swerved everyone else by picking Dr. Hibbert over Dr. Nick. Arkansas voters stuck with Louisiana when it comes to the show their character comes from, 'The Good Doctor', but broke away from their neighbor by selecting Dr. Neil Melendez as their primary choice.
