It Feels Like Northwest Louisiana Is on High Alert When it Comes to Weather.

The last thing that we are worried about is an earthquake popping up in Northwest Louisiana. However Thursday morning there was a minor earthquake that shook the Hall Summit area. According to KSLA 12, both the National Weather Service and the United States Geological Survey have both confirmed there was an earthquake that measured 2.8. Red River Parish has claimed the first earthquake of the year.

Reports claim that on January 11th, at 8:52 a.m., Hall Summit, Louisiana, in Red River Parish experienced the first earthquake of 2024 that measured a magnitude of 2.8.

When Was the Last Time That We Experienced an Earthquake in Northwest Louisiana?  

According to database.earth the last time we felt an earthquake was November  11, 2022. That earthquake measured at 3.0 12 miles northwest of Shreveport it also happened early on a Thursday morning.

Both of these earthquakes are considered minor earthquakes. Earthquakes that register 3.0 to 3.9 are considered minor. An earthquake that measures 6.0 is considered to be strong and a 8.0 earthquake or higher is considered to be a "great earthquake".
