Louisiana Megastar Allegedly Assaulted By NBA Rookie’s Security

An alleged tale of violence between a Louisiana megastar and a budding Texas superstar is playing out this week.

According to TMZ, Louisiana's Britney Spears was struck in the face, and forced to the ground, by the security for an NBA rookie. The assault is said to have taken place in the Catch restaurant in the ARIA Hotel in Las Vegas.

The security guard was escorting San Antonio Spurs #1 overall draft pick Victor Wembanyama. Spears, being an avid NBA fan, was excited to get a picture with the NBA rookie. According to the reports, Spears tapped Victor on the back to get his attention, when his security "backhanded" her in the face, and took her to the ground. The reports are it was a hard enough hit to knock the glasses off her face.

TMZ is reporting that the security guard that struck Spears was Director of Team Security for the San Antonio Spurs, Damian Smith. Additionally, TMZ reports this is now being handled as a criminal matter.

Initially, sources told TMZ that this would not be handled as a criminal investigation. But earlier today, they learned from sources inside the Vegas Metro Police Department that they are treating the incident "as serious as a heart attack", and that this is a criminal investigation.

However, some of the reporting that TMZ has published suggests that the security guard may not have struck Spears, but rather Spears actually hit herself during the altercation.

We will have to wait and see how this plays out, but at this point, it doesn't look like this situation is going to help Texas-Louisiana relations anytime soon.
