If you've ever found yourself wondering why being single in 2023 is so tough, try asking why is it even harder being single in Shreveport-Bossier City. According to a recent WalletHub.com study, being single in Shreveport sucks. We're the 20th worst city for dating in America... at least out of the 182 cities they looked at. Don't feel too bad though. We were the 6th worst last year. Here's what they found.

Before we get into the metrics the WalletHub.com experts used in their findings, let's find out where cities in our region ended up for 2023. Out of 182 cities across the country, New Orleans, LA is the best in our region for singles ranking 57th followed by Dallas, TX at 104th, followed by Baton Rouge, LA at 126th, Shreveport at 163rd, and finally Little Rock came in at 174th. Yikes!

Did you know that nearly 47% of adults in the U.S. are single? With that in mind, you would think that it would be easier to find love, right? Not so much. The US Census Bureau reports that out of those singles, 57% aren't interested in a relationship... even something casual. So what did they base these findings on? WalletHub.com looked at everything from the percentage of the population that was single in each city, to online dating opportunities, and the average price for a meal for two. Other key metrics were the balance of single men vs. women, the average cost of beer/wine, the cost of going out to see a movie, the median price for renting a single-bedroom apartment, and the average cost of going to a beauty salon.

According to Wallethub.com, Shreveport ranks 88th in the country for 2023 when it comes to economics, 168th when it comes to fun and recreation, and 156th for dating opportunities.

While I can't speak to all of the above, I am single.  I think that rents are high in our area due to the proximity of Barksdale Air Force Base. I have used online dating services locally and as many will tell you, no matter which app you're on, you'll see the same faces over and over. On the flip side, we have some great restaurants and watering holes so that has to count for something, right?

So what do you think? Are you single in Shreveport? Tell us what you think it's like to be single and in search of love in Shreveport-Bossier!
