A friend is getting a work transfer to Shreveport, LA, from another part of the country. What's the best advice you can give to a Shreveport newcomer? This topic came up on Reddit recently and I was completely taken aback by the many positive, thoughtful, and helpful responses.

What's the best advice you can give to a Shreveport, LA newcomer?

That's the topic that came up this week in the Shreveport subreddit.

Usually, after seeing a question like this, you get a ton of folks making smart-ass comments about how horrible Shreveport is, that there's never anything to do, and that the crime is the worst ever. However, some well-thought-out responses brought a smile to my face. Check this out.

My favorite line from that one is, 'Bugs are aggressive in the summer.' Yep! And as for crime, this Shreveport transplant hit the nail on the head saying, 'Our crime stats are bad, but it's usually pretty localized and not random. Use some basic common sense - lock your car, and your doors, be aware of your surroundings - and you'll be unlikely to have issues unless you actively choose to engage in some of the different subcultures in town.' I don't know about you, but I'd call that accurate! After all of that, here's my favorite review of living in Shreveport.

Of course, it wouldn't be right if I didn't balance out this story with at least one negative comment. Here's the obligatory 'Shreveport sucks' post.
