From Baton Rouge to Bossier City, from Shreveport to Slidell, for once here in Louisiana, we're NOT #1!

How sinful are we in Louisiana?

How can Louisiana be this sinful? We have a church on every corner... Heck, we're smack dab in the middle of the Bible Belt. But that doesn't help according to Wallethub.com, though. Their research lists Louisiana as the 2nd most sinful state in the country for 2024, that's up one spot from 2023 and up 3 spots from 5th in 2022. In short, we're getting worse!

Wallethub.com says that the most sinful states in the United States are Nevada, Louisiana, California, Florida, and Tennessee. Sure, we have drive-thru daiquiris, gambling, and Mardi Gras, but so do a lot of other states. And I don't even think they took our politicians into account. So what gives?

It appears that here in Louisiana, we have an issue with anger and hate. We rank 4th in the country for that, 4th for jealousy, and 1st for excesses and vices. If that's bad enough, Louisiana ranks 13th for greed, 8th for lust, 28th for vanity, and 4th for laziness. We're not looking so good here folks.

But that's not all. Wallethub.com also found that we're tied for first when it comes to violent crimes per capita and we come in 5th when it comes to thefts per capita. Adding insult to injury, Wallethub.com points out that Louisiana has one of the highest teen birth rates in the country. We also have high rates of obesity and substance abuse.

I don't know what we can do to improve our numbers here, but maybe we should put off starting until Lent? Or maybe putting things off is what got us in this predicament to begin with?
