From Longview to League City, to right here in Shreveport-Bossier City and East Texas -- Experts are predicting 2024 will be the 'Year of the Cicada' and here's what you can expect to see in Texas.

Is 2024 really going to be the year of the cicada?

According to this post that I found on Facebook, Texas is set to be overrun with two different types of cicadas this year... which means it's about to get loud!

According to this, we haven't seen a conflagration of cicadas like this in over 200 years. But is it true? I decided to do some investigating. It turns out that it's TRUE! Two different types of cicadas will be emerging at once which is a rare occurrence. And if you're wondering about that weird noise they make, it's actually the sound male cicadas make when it's time to mate.

According to this, 18 states are going to have a noisy spring with the emergence of the northern Illinois brood and the great southern broods coming out at the same time. While Texas will see cicadas this year, Fox News says Illinois and Indiana will be the states most affected by this phenomenon in the middle of May and the end of June. Thankfully cicadas aren't poisonous and because they don't bite or sting, they're mostly harmless. Which is a good thing, because experts say we'll be seeing will 'exceed trillions.'
