East Texas Parents Arrested After Dangerous Narcotics Were Found In Baby’s Diaper

In my opinion, it is a despicable act to use a baby as a carrier for drugs. Their precious lives are given to us as a gift and there are no circumstances in which a baby should be used as a carrier or to transport drugs. Babies shouldn't ever be placed in a position to be around any drug, over-the-counter, prescribed, or illegal.

Parents should have a higher value for the life of their child and protect their innocent child's life at all costs. What an educated adult does with their life is their own choice, but when a baby or child is involved it's completely different.

This past Sunday in Smith County a set of parents were arrested after drugs were uncovered inside their baby's diaper, according to a press release from the Smith County Sheriff's Office.

A Smith County Sheriff's Deputy pulled over a vehicle Sunday night in north Tyler for a minor traffic violation at Loop 323 and State Highway 110 North. According to the sheriff's office, the officer on the scene noticed an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and had probable cause to conduct a field search of the vehicle.

Driver, Dre-Darian Ester, and passenger Jada Speight exited the vehicle along with their six-month-old child. During the search, deputies found four vacuum-sealed bags of raw marijuana in the trunk of the vehicle.

While speaking to the parents, deputies became suspicious and believed that there were drugs being hidden in the child's clothing. The deputies asked Speight to change the infant's diaper and upon doing so they observed a pill bottle inside the baby's diaper.

The drug inside the bottle is believed to be pressed Fentanyl, the highly dangerous illegal narcotic.

Arrested on the scene, Ester and Speight were taken to the Smith County Jail and are each charged with:

• possession of marijuana - $50,000 bond
• manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance - $5,000 bond
• endangering a child in imminent danger of bodily injury - $50,000 bond

The couple were taken to the Smith County Jail.
