The Lone Star State Has Only One NHL Hockey Team With The Dallas Stars But A Second Team Could Be Coming Soon.

If you're a Texas hockey fan, then you're well aware that the Dallas Stars are making another deep run in The Stanley Cup Playoffs which is pretty exciting news in itself.

But interest is continuing to build for a second NHL team in Texas and there's several folks willing to pony up the money to make it happen.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman confirmed Tuesday that the league has received interest from other parties about a team in Houston.

According to a report from the Houston Chronicle, Bettman says that while the league is “not currently planning on expansion”, several parties have expressed interest in bringing a team to Houston including NBA Houston Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta.

Fertitta said he was interested in bringing an NHL team to the Toyota Center when he bought the Rockets in October 2017 and has expressed more interest of late, recently disclosing he was partnering with a real estate developer to bring a team to the Bayou City.

Houston is the nation’s largest city currently without pro hockey.

The NHL is currently at 32 teams and for the first time since 2011, relocated a franchise in a complex transaction after it shifted the hockey assets of the Arizona Coyotes to Utah.

Houston was originally on the short list for the Arizona team to move to but its unknown what happened that prevented it from happening.

Would you like to see another NHL team in Texas?
