People in Louisiana love a good gathering or good competition, but some are questioning one competition that is set to happen in February.

I recently came across an event announcement on social media and even I had had to ask if this was an actual event.

The event is a "Nutria Toss Competition." Yes, people toss dead nutria, which is heavy, and they compete against one another to see who can toss the dead animal the furthest.

As you would expect, some are not happy about this type of competition in Louisiana and many on social media are calling it animal abuse.

This competition is reportedly going to happen on February 17th at the Venice Marina.

By looking a a photo from a previous competition toss, wherever the dead animal lands, it is marked with a soda can, and whoever tosses the dead animal the furthest, wins the friendly competition.

Look, in recent years we've learned that nutria are a nuisance and they do indeed pose a threat to our Louisiana coastline, after all, we have bounties on the invasive species.

We ask, how do you feel about this "competition?" You can let us know in the comment section of the social media page that links you to this story.

Here's a video that I found of such a competition., You can see the carcasses of many nutria, and the competition is in full--swing.

Check out the official announcement of this competition in South Louisiana.
