It's like a scene from Jurassic Park, but it's not.

If you are a fan of wildlife in the state of Louisiana, you may want to make a drive to see the massive birds that are flocking to one particular spot in our state.

The American white pelican is known for settling on the Red River in Shreveport between October and March. These birds are massive and their wingspan can reach 9 feet.

Often you'll see them gliding over the water while hunting for fish, with an occasional flap or two. Once in the water, these massive birds coordinate with one another to drive small fish to shallow water.

According to KTAL, you can find a large quantity of these birds if you visit the Red River Lock and Dam in north Louisiana.

Birdwatching can be quite the experience in the state of Louisiana, add to that these massive-sized birds and it becomes even more entertaining. And if you have a kid(s) who love the outdoors, these huge birds will be something that they never forget seeing out in the wild.

The American white pelicans spend winters mainly on coastal waters, bays, and estuaries, or a little distance inland.
