(KMDL-FM) Almost every time we bring you news of the Texas-based travel center Buc-ee's, it's usually good to hear. Folks in Louisiana are pretty excited that the popular travel center has plans to expand to a location near Ruston on I-20 and a location near Lafayette on I-10. But is that still in the works?

The popular travel center has just announced a bit of rare news. According to Buc-ee's, they are planning on shuttering a location. The location itself will not stay empty. According to reports, the location will become part of the 7-Eleven empire.

Which Buc-ee's Location is Closing?

Based on what we've learned, the Buc-ee's location that will be closing is one of the brand's smaller locations. Although the transition from Buc-ee's to 7-Eleven has been made public, the timetable for that changeover has not been.

In fact, a quick check of the Buc-ee's website still shows the Port Lavaca location to be on the roster of operating stores. That is the location that was targeted for change. The plans for the Ruston store and the Lafayette store appear to be on track and staying fairly close to the anticipated timetables that have been previously discussed.

Now That Buc-ee's Has Closed a Location - Does That Affect Louisiana Expansion?

The current speculation is that Buc-ee's Ruston location on I-20 will open in early 2027. The Buc-ee's location on I-10 near Lafayette is expected to open sometime in the middle of 2027.

Currently, the closest Buc-ee's to Louisiana is the Harrison County, Mississippi location, which opened last summer to the east. To the west, your closest Buc-ee's is going to be the Baytown, Texas, store just off I-10 near Houston.

And in case you're wondering if Buc-ee's is suffering any ill effects of the current economic situation, their new store in Huber Heights, Ohio, had its grand opening on April 6, 2026. It is estimated that the store brought in more than $1 million in sales in a single day. So, don't worry about the "Beaver," they're going to be just fine.
