Chick-fil-A Settlement – What Louisiana Customers Should Expect

Atlanta-based Chick-fil-A has announced it has reached a settlement in a class action lawsuit and that settlement could mean cash payments or gift cards for some Louisiana customers of the fast food giant. The lawsuit was brought over claims the restaurant chain made regarding free or low-cost delivery to customers.

The case revealed that Chick-fil-A in its offering of said services actually inflated the cost of food on delivery orders. So, the defacto result was not as advertised. An example that was mentioned in connection with the class action suit stated that an order of 30 chicken nuggets placed for delivery actually cost $5 to $6 more than the same order would cost if picked up in-store.

The lawsuit alleged that Chick-fil-A did not inform customers of the 25% to 30% markup that was placed on delivery orders. While it was true the restaurant technically did offer "free or low-cost" delivery, the reality was they were making money off of consumers who were deceived.

The terms of the agreement in the settlement will require Chick-fil-A to set aside $1.45 million dollars in cash and some $2.95 million dollars in gift cards. While admitting no fault in the case the company did agree to add disclosure notices on its digital platforms informing consumers that prices might be higher for orders placed for delivery.

How Much Will the Average Consumer Get in the Chick-fil-A Settlement?

Customers who are deemed eligible for a refund can expect that refund to manifest in one of two ways. It will either come to you as a $29.95 payment. Or, you might receive a gift card valued at $29.95. In each case, consumers who are eligible will be notified via email. Also, depending on the final number of people involved in the suit the amount of the cash settlement or the gift card could be reduced.

How Can I Become a Part of the Chick-fil-A Settlement?

Customers who feel they may have been overcharged or misled by Chick-fil-A may fill out a form on the company's website. As of early this morning, that form was not live on the website but it will be soon. Click here to check if the form is available. You will be required to give your name, email, and phone number, and provide proof that you are eligible to be included in the settlement.

As of now, Chick-fil-A has offered no timetable of when refunds and gift cards will be going out to consumers but the speculation is that the company will begin moving forward on the process before the end of 2023.
