New Iberia Native Natalie Kingston Wins Emmy for Best Cinematography
New Iberia native Natalie Kingston walked away with some pretty cool hardware over the weekend at the 75th Creative Arts Emmy Awards.
Kingston, a graduate of the University of Louisiana, won an Emmy for Best Cinematography for her work on the Apple TV+ miniseries "Black Bird."
The exact category name of the category is "Outstanding Cinematography for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie."
According to one report, Kingston became the first woman to ever win an Emmy for cinematography in a TV series.
And according to Kingston's Facebook post on her win, this was her first TV show.
About "Black Bird"
"Black Bird" was filmed in the New Orleans and Thibodaux areas, so it was a homecoming of sorts for Kingston, who moved to Los Angeles in 2020.
The six-episode series is a true crime drama that takes place in Illinois and Missouri. It follows Jimmy Keene (Taron Egerton) as he begins a 10-year prison sentence that could end early if he can get a confession out of suspected serial killer Larry Hall (Paul Walter Hauser).
The miniseries is based on the 2010 novel "In With the Devil: A Fallen Hero, a Serial Killer, and a Dangerous Bargain for Redemption."
Kingston told the Acadiana Advocate last year: "I love dark material, character-driven material. This is right up my alley. I thought it was such a dream project that I wasn't going to get."
