
Ville Platte Man Arrested for Trading Chainsaw for Drugs
VILLE PLATTE, La. (KMDL-FM) - A Ville Platte man is now in custody after authorities say he stole a chainsaw and later traded it for illegal drugs, according to the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Ville Platte Man Arrested After Chainsaw Linked to Drug Trade
On February 10, deputies with the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported break-in at Butler’s Tree Service on U.S. Highway 167 North. Surveillance video captured a masked individual entering the business’s equipment storage area and taking a chainsaw according to KATC.com.

Sheriff’s investigators with the Criminal Investigations Division reviewed the video footage and identified the suspect as 31-year-old Casey Stephen McCauley.
When questioned, McCauley denied involvement, but evidence later found the stolen chainsaw in the possession of others who had traded it for narcotics.

"Arrest warrants were secured, and McCauley was taken into custody on Feb. 24.
He is charged with unauthorized entry of a place of business and simple burglary, both felonies. His bond is set at $75,000."

The case remains under investigation, and authorities have not indicated whether additional arrests are possible.
