Jenna Dewan and Channing Tatum, one of Hollywood's most beloved couples, rocked our world when they announced their separation after nine years of marriage in April 2018 — and now the actress has spoken out about how "gutted" she felt over it.

To promote her new book Gracefully You: How To Live Your Best Life Every Day, which drops on October 22, Dewan sat down for a candid interview with People, in which she opened up about her divorce from the Magic Mike actor and revealed how much she struggled with the idea of living her life without him.

“I was just gutted. It was so difficult for me,” she said. “It was the loss of an idealistic future for myself and my life. What does that now look like for me? Where do I begin? I met him when I was 24, I didn’t know life without Chan.”

She explained that "People grow and they change and sometimes they don’t grow and change together. So [the split] wasn’t an overnight thing that happened. There was no one event. I think it was just a slow realization that we wanted different things.”

The 38-year-old said she leaned on her friends and family for support, adding that it was "a hard journey of growth and change" but that it ultimately led her to boyfriend Steve Kazee, with whom she's expecting her first child with.

She went on to say that she never expected to jump into a new romance so soon after her divorce from Tatum, however, she could not deny or avoid her "instant connection" with Kazee. As for her relationship with her ex-husband, the two are focused on their six-year-old daughter, Everly, as they continue to co-parent.

“We’re all aware that it’s a new normal, we’re all getting used to it,” Dewan said. “You can still have a relationship and just because the forms change as to who you are to each other, it doesn’t take away from the love that we had or that we shared all those years.”
