Would you like to play a game?

Wait, hold on. That’s the wrong franchise, by quite a wide margin. Too dark. Sorry, let’s try this again: Would you like to play Jumanji specifically? That’s the game we’re talking about right now. Not some kind of creepy Saw thing.

Yes, Jumanji, the beloved ’90s film about a board game that sucks players into it (and then unleashes creatures out of it) is coming back with a 2017 upgrade. This time out, Jumanji (now subtitled Welcome to the Jungle) features the likes of Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan. Ahead of the film’s first trailer we’ve got the first teaser for the film:

And here’s the plot synopsis:

While cleaning out a school's basement, four teenagers find a vintage video game version of Jumanji and get sucked into its jungle setting.

Even thought this Jumanji is supposedly about a magic video game, the box that someone picks up out of the sand in this clip sure looks like the old board game version. So I guess we’ll have to see; maybe there are multiple games to play that all intersect and connect, forming a Jumanji Cinematic Universe. Wouldn’t that be a delight?

The full trailer for Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle debuts tomorrow; the full movie opens on December 22, 2017.
