Caddo Jury Makes Quick Decision

After barely 120 minutes of deliberations, the Caddo Parish jury found 29-year-old Tre’veon Anderson guilty of second-degree murder and conspiracy to commit second-degree murder in the slaying of Officer Payne three years ago. According to reports at the time, Payne and Anderson were going through a breakup when she was shot to death outside her home.

42-year-old co-defendant Glenn Frierson was found not guilty on both counts.

The jury vote was unanimous on all four charges against the pair.

What's Next for the Convicted Anderson?

Anderson, Payne’s estranged boyfriend at the time of the killing and also the father of her then-two-year-old child, now faces a mandatory life term in prison without probation, parole or sentence reduction. His formal sentencing is scheduled for May 11.

Both the prosecution and defense completed their cases on Tuesday. Closing arguments began early Wednesday afternoon and were quickly completed. After being given instructions by Judge John Mosely, the jury began deliberation around 4pm before returning with their verdict two hours later.

Did You Know There was a Third Defendant?

A third defendant, 24-year-old Lawrence Pierre, was scheduled to go on trial with the other two, but pleaded guilty in exchange for the prosecution's dismissal of the murder conspiracy charge. He has been sentenced to life in prison.
