My son, who is about to turn 15, is a typical teenager. He likes to do little else but play video games. But, and believe me when I tell you this, he's insanely good at video games. Scary good. He actually wants to be a video game designer when he grows up. And now LSUS and LaPrep is offering a great course for kids just like him.

LaPREP is thrilled to announce a brand new program for 8th-12th graders, LaPIXEL Academy! LaPIXEL Academy is a four-week summer program held on the campus of LSUS. In LaPIXEL Academy, students will work on desktop computer graphics, story development, character design, sprite animation, video game creation, and more! At the end of the program, participants will have a video game to share with friends and family. Participants will have also learned some of the same skills and techniques used in simulation, computer gaming, bioinformatics, medical research, and intelligence operations such as cyber security.

The LaPIXEL Academy 2016 dates are June 6 – 30 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. with a demonstration day on June 30 where students can show their family and friends the video game they created! Although LaPREP grads have priority in the selection process, we consider applications from all 8th-12th grade students. Due to technology limitations, we can only accept 18 participants. LaPIXEL Academy participant selection will be announced on May 2. Completed applications can be returned by snail mail (LaPREP, One University Place, Shreveport, LA 71115) or by email (laprep@lsus.edu). Completed applications must be received by April 22.

If you have any questions, or need an application, please call or email Kerry Shockley at 318.797.5356, or Kerry.Shockley@lsus.edu.
